N. Slater Company was founded in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 1912 to supply Pole Line Hardware for the growing electrical market. Over the years the company ownership and name has changed several times, to the current Slacan Industries Inc.
As Canada's largest designer and manufacturer of Pole Line Hardware, we serve the communication and electrical utility market with a complete line of telephone, distribution, and EHV Transmission hardware as well as Substation and structural steelwork.
Over the years, the main focus has continued to be quality line hardware. Knowledge gained from years of forging, stamping and machining has provided the opportunity for entry into the OEM markets. Today our OEM focus is farm equipment and mining, although several markets are served. In 2001 Slacan expanded its product line with the acquisition of the technology from Cross Canada Electric for Substation design. This has evolved into the manufacture of other structural transmission components such as steel crossarms, davit arms and anchor bolt assemblies.
In 1986, Slacan relocated to a new 120,000 sq.ft. facility in Brantford, Ontario, 20 miles west of Hamilton where it had started its business.
In 1996, Slacan's Quality Management System was registered by QMI to ISO 9001 and is currently registered to ISO 9001:2000, Certificate #000550. Slacan also maintains Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) certification of our welding processes.
