The main scope of our business at Ritchie Feed & Seed Inc., as our name implies, has always been to serve as a distributor to the agricultural industry in the Ottawa Valley area. Founded by John Ritchie in 1930, the original store and mill were located on York Street, which is in the heart of downtown Ottawa.
We acquired our main location in the east end of Ottawa at 1390 Windmill Lane in the year 1960. This location has provided us the essentials for successful retailing, good visibility and easy access. In the subsequent 20 years, the garden center and retail store at Ritchie Feed & Seed Inc. grew to be one of the largest independent lawn and garden retail businesses in Eastern Ontario. In response to the increased demand and interest, we expanded in 1982 by opening a retail and garden center outlet in Stittsville, west of Ottawa. Additionally, in 1992 C& L Feeds was acquired consisting of two agricultural retail stores located in Dixon Corners and Winchester. Our product lines were expanded at those outlets to include lawn and garden products.
In order to provide further superior customer service in both agricultural and horticultural needs, Ritchie Feed & Seed Inc. made further progression in recent years. In 2004 the Stittsville location moved to Carp Road. A new sophisticated mill operation was established at the NCC Mill on Woodroofe Avenue in 2006. Our most recent acquisition of an additional retail agricultural and lawn and garden store in Brockville was in the year 2008.
Ultimately, Ritchie Feed & Seed Inc. has grown to comprise of 5 retail agriculture and garden supply stores including 4 garden centers and 3 agricultural mills. Our diversification of products and services are our strength and they include:
